meilen (pronounced “mylen”) is a ceramic studio founded by husband and wife duo, Bert Walter and Jennifer Bernstein.

meilen, the German word for miles, fuses together the individual art practices of its founders.

After completing a potters apprenticeship, Bert continued his studies in ceramics at the IKKG (Institut für Künstlerische Keramik und Glas). Bert opened his Frankfurt Atelier in 2000 with a focus on sculptural ceramics as well as functional work.

Jennifer studied printmaking at OCAD (Ontario College of Art and Design) before working with ceramics. After meeting Bert in 2011, Jennifer worked in Bert’s studio developing the colours and recipes they use today.
